In the 1950’s, Erachem Comilog, Inc. met America’s need for a secure domestic source of strategically important manganese chemicals.  In the ensuing half century, our history has been marked by a continuous refinement of unique technologies and the expansion of our fine products portfolio.

 

1950

Manganese Chemicals Corporation forms under a U.S. government contract to promote domestic manganese production.

 

 

1953 Riverton, MN plant begins producing high purity manganese carbonate from low-grade local ore.

 

 

1959 Pickands-Mather acquires Manganese Chemicals Corporation.

 

 

1962 Baltimore, MD and Kingwood, WV plants start-up using high grade foreign ores.

 

 

1968 Diamond-Shamrock acquires Pickands-Mather.  Manganese Chemicals becomes the Chemetals Division of Diamond-Shamrock.

 

 

1973 Chemetals introduces high purity manganese oxides at low cost, benefitting electronics and specialty chemical producers.

 

 

1975 Chemetals commercializes anhydrous manganese halide salts.

 

 

1978 Chemetals, Inc. is born as SEDEMA (Belgium) acquires Chemetals Division from Diamond-Shamrock.

 

 
1985 The Kingwood, WV plant closes permanently.

 

 

1986 Nitride products relocate to Baltimore.

 

 

1987 Chemetals acquires the manganese business of Foote Minerals in New Johnsonville, TN and introduces CST, a sulfur sorbent used to protect sensitive refining catalysts.

 

 

1988 Société Générale de Belgique restructures. SEDEMA and Chemetals become part of SADACEM, S.A. Baltimore multi-purpose plant start-up manufacture of Mn3O4, PF, MnCO3 UF.

 

 

1989 Chemetals expands its New Johnsonville capacity.

 

 

1990 Comilog acquires SADACEM S.A. from Société Générale.

 

 

1993 Chemetals expands its New Johnsonville capacity and achieves ISO 9001 certification in Baltimore.

 

 

1994 Chemetals expands nitriding capacity at Baltimore.  Eramet purchases controlling interest in Comilog.

 

 

Chemetals introduces LiMnO4 to its product line.
1998

 

 

1999 Chemetals expands its New Johnsonville capacity.

 

 

2000 Eramet acquires Chemetals and name changes to Erachem Comilog, Inc.  Also, New Johnsonville expands capacity.

 

 

2002 New Johnsonville operations completes capacity expansion.  Eramet acquires Sulfamex, a Mexican company that produces products sold to the agrochemical markets.

 

 

2006 Erachem Comilog, Inc. lends technical expertise for start-up operation of EMD operations in Chongzuo, China.

 

 

2008 Erachem Comilog, Inc. achieves ISO 9001:2000 certification and continues EMD expansion in Chongzuo.
